E-9-1-1 TIPS
1. When testing your phones 9-1-1 capability, Always speak to the telecommunicator to let them know you are OK and that you are only testing your phone.
2. If you happen to dial 9-1-1 by mistake please stay on the line to let the telecommunicator know you are OK and to prevent Law Enforsement from coming to your residents.
3.Disconnected cell phone or cell phone without minute are still capable of dialing 9-1-1 with a charged battery. These phones are great to keep in the car for travling in the event of an emergency. However when giving your old cell phones to children to play with always disconnect the battery first.
4.When calling in an emergency to 9-1-1 please be prepared to answer all questions to the best of your ability, and please note that aswering these questions does not slow down the response of the emergency units.
5.Please be sure your children know how to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency situation, but please be sure they know it is for emergencies only.
6.In the event that your power goes out, please call your power company to report outage not 9-1-1.
7.For faster service when calling 9-1-1 please keep the following posted by all of your phones at all times. Your phone number, your address, description of your house, and directions to your house from a major highway.
